Park Güell Barcelona

Filled with trees, curves and very colorful, Park Güell was built in 1900 as a private park and became public in 1922.

There is much to see in Park Güell, from its elaborate staircase to the pavilions tour, the oval square among many other things. Way of the Rosary is located in the Pink Tower, the Gaudí residence between 1906 and 1925 and that today is a fascinating museum to know.

Everything inside the Park Güell is magical, and you will want to photograph every detail of the buildings.

The dream of Gaudí

The model in which Gaudí inspired the park was in the English educational establishments with the houses scattered around the enclosure where everyone could live at their own pace. Based on these premises, Güell and Gaudí designed the park.

Güell had to buy adjoining land to form a silhouette with seven sides and seven doors with 12 hectares and divided it into 60 equal triangles. Built each plot property with a garden in an era where affluent families had many children and servitude.

Another inspiration for the park was the Sanctuary of Apollo, a model of the sacred precincts of antiquity. Güell and Gaudí wanted it to be private urbanization, but the truth is that in this park, nothing was normal, beginning with its architecture but also with the dream of a perfect society.

Park Güell overflows with symbolism. Of the seven doors, built three with bars, two on the tips and one on the highest side of the park, but the main entrance, more outstanding and more majestic in proportion to the wall, never reached to be made. Next to the entrance, there are very curious pavilions, and the outer wall closes based on them.

Gaudí mixed several symbolisms into one thing; for example, in front of the pavilion on the right, there is a strange cave that was thought to park cars, but at the same time, because of its size and texture, it looks like an elephant. Still, you can only see the belly and the legs, although if you look closely from the inside and outside sore, it shows the trunk and tail. Also, the cave paid homage to the famous medieval crypt of Sant Pere de Rodes (Cadaqués), which has a very similar central column. As the playful thinking predominates, and this is not the only elephant, the two pavilions at the entrance amaze with their fantastic roof with bright colors that reflect the sunlight. It has the shape of a saddle but not of a horse, but of a much broader elephant, which can carry towers as in old paintings with warriors.
